Euro 2012 co-hosts compare progress

Organisers from Ukraine have travelled to Euro 2012 co-hosts Poland for the first time to monitor preparations for the championships.

Germany, Spain and Italy were the first teams to seal qualification for the competition last week, building expectation for the event, starting on June 8 in Warsaw.

The final will be held in Kiev on July 1.

Kiev delegate Arsen Popel admitted that Poland were ahead with preparations for the quadrennial event.

You could say that maybe they are slightly ahead in some aspects in Warsaw, but thanks to this visit we can compare information and then pay attention to those things which we need to work on, Popel said.

But we don t need to re-invent the wheel. I think that the level of preparations in Kiev and Warsaw are fairly similar, Popel said.

Lviv delegate Pavlo Krupski added that it made a big difference seeing first-hand how Poland were planning their tournament.

For me, as a person who is responsible for logistics, it was interesting to see how the logistics work, he said.

For example, you can host the Euros, but you also need to know how to ensure transportation, organise cleaning, security, fire, safety and so on.

For me it was most important because it s better to see it once, than being told about it over and over again.

Preparations have been far from ideal in Poland, though, with the national stadium in Warsaw failing to meet its July deadline for completion.

The five-day visit will see the representatives from Ukraine travel to the other Polish host cities including Gdansk, Wroclaw and Poznan.
