Solskjaer puts trust in Bailly as partner for Man Utd skipper Maguire

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will give Eric Bailly the chance to show he can provide the solution to Manchester United s defensive problems.

United manager Solskjaer was urged to dive into the transfer market after last weekend s season-opening defeat to Crystal Palace at Old Trafford.

Former Red Devils captain Gary Neville said the centre-back partnership between Victor Lindelof and Harry Maguire was not good enough for a team with Premier League title pretensions.

Lindelof, particularly poor against Palace, could lose his Premier League starting place as Solskjaer puts his trust in an axis formed by captain Maguire and ex-Villarreal man Bailly.

They were paired together in the 3-0 EFL Cup win at Luton Town on Tuesday and could again be in tand…

Tuchel convinced Neymar ´feels good´ at PSG amid Barcelona links

Thomas Tuchel is adamant Neymar feels very happy and wants to become a leader at Paris Saint-Germain, amid reports of a potential return to Barcelona.

Neymar joined PSG from Barca in 2017 for a world-record fee of €222million, a deal that made waves in the sport and caught the Catalan club by surprise, as the Ligue 1 side triggered the Brazilian s release clause.

Much of Neymar s time in Paris has been dominated by reports linking him with further transfers, with Real Madrid said to be particularly interested last year before Cristiano Ronaldo departed for Juventus.

That rumour disappeared and has since given way to equally strong suggestions Barca are trying to bring Neymar back to Camp Nou and the Brazil star is said to be keen on a return.

But Tuche…

Szoboszlai, Traore, Kane, and more: The Daily Transfer Round Up – Sunday, July 2

Liverpool confirm Szoboszlai signing

— Liverpool FC (@LFC)

Liverpool have confirmed the signing of Dominik Szoboszlai from RB Leipzig. The six-time European champions triggered the €70 million release clause the Hungary captain had in his contract with the Bundesliga side, and he s now ready to take part in the reconstruction of Liverpool s midfield section under Jurgen Klopp.

Szoboszlai will wear the iconic shirt No. 8 at Liverpool, as he was a big fan of Steven Gerrard when he was growing up.

Milan and Roma to compete for Traore?

AS Roma are reportedly set to compete against AC Milan for the services of Adama Traore. The 27-year-old winger is available on a free transfer, following the expiration of his contract wit…

Rangers 1-3 Ajax: Gers set unwanted Champions League record with sixth defeat

Rangers set an unwanted record by becoming the first Scottish side to lose all six of their Champions League group stage matches after falling to a 3-1 defeat to Ajax.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst s side had little chance of securing a Europa League spot heading into the final match of their Group A campaign, and any slim hope was dashed when they found themselves 2-0 down within 29 minutes at Ibrox on Tuesday.

Steven Berghuis opened the scoring for the visitors in the fourth minute with Mohammed Kudus doubling Ajax s advantage.

Kudus was on the scoresheet again after the break, though the effort was disallowed for offside by VAR.

Rangers did get a late consolation goal from the penalty spot, tucked away by captain James Tavernier, but Francisco Conceicao rou…

Fergie backs Mancini´s stance on Tevez

Sir Alex Ferguson has praised Roberto Mancini s handling of the Carlos Tevez saga ahead of Manchester United s derby clash on Sunday.

The United manager used his match programme notes to reiterate a manager s reliance upon maintaining authority during a player revolt.

Ferguson also insisted Mancini had done the right thing by asserting control over the situation following Tevez s reported refusal to play against Bayern Munich.

Ferguson also refuted claims he has a personal grudge against Tevez after the Argentine s departure from Old Trafford in 2009.

If a player refuses to go on the field and there is a clear attempt to defy the authority of the manager, then he has to react and vigorously so, Ferguson said.

Management these days has become mu…

Salt Lake sweat on defensive duo

Real Salt Lake are sweating on the fitness of defensive duo Nat Borchers and Jamison Olave ahead of their conference final against the LA Galaxy.

Both men suffered quadriceps strains in the first leg of their Western Conference semi-final against Seattle Sounders.

Despite a nervy second leg, RSL progressed past Seattle to set up a date with the LA Galaxy in the Western Conference final but the big question is whether Borchers and Olave will take their places in the centre of defence on Sunday.

Those two are arguably the best centre-back pairing in the league, and if one of them are out it hurts them, Galaxy captain Landon Donovan said. If both of them are out it certainly hurts them.

Fellow USA international Kyle Beckerman, who sits in a holding role a…

Hibbert: Everton in decline since Moyes exit

Former Everton defender Tony Hibbert believes his ex-employers have been witnessing a period of negative change since David Moyes departure in 2013.

Following 25 years at Goodison Park, the Everton cult hero was released at the end of his contract without so much as a phone call from anybody at the club.

Hibbert only found out about his release from the club s official website and has since taken up the opinion things have gone downhill on Merseyside since ex-manager Moyes moved to Manchester United in 2013.

I was in Formby with my dad and brother when my wife Samantha rang to say she d been getting text messages from friends that I wasn t being retained, Hibbert told the Daily Mail.

It was on the website, I couldn t believe it so I rang a friend at t…

Herrera set to approach disillusioned Vela

Mexico coach Miguel Herrera is planning to approach disillusioned forward Carlos Vela, hoping to regain his services.

Vela, who plies his trade with La Liga club Real Sociedad, has not featured for his nation since 2011, when he earned his 35th cap as a second-half substitute in a 1-1 draw with Venezuela.

The reason for Vela s discontent with the Mexican Football Federation (FMF) stems from a six-month suspension earned for his involvement in a party after a friendly with Colombia in September 2010.

Since, he has appeared only twice for the national team both times in friendlies in March 2011.

Vela has reportedly fallen out with higher ups in the FMF, however he did declare his keenness to rejoin the national team after former coach Jose Manuel de la Torr…

Good players like Diego Costa welcome at Everton – Koeman

Everton would give Diego Costa a warm welcome were he to arrive from Chelsea in the final days of the transfer window, according to manager Ronald Koeman.

Koeman has made public his intention to bring another forward to Goodison Park and Costa has gone AWOL after being told by Antonio Conte that he is no longer wanted at Chelsea Everton s opponents on Sunday.

Atletico Madrid have reportedly being leading the chase for Costa, with the player openly expressing his desire to return the club he left for Stamford Bridge in 2014.

Italian giants AC Milan have also been linked with a move, but there could be another option that would see the Spain international stay in the Premier League.

When asked about the possibility of bringing Costa to Merseyside, Koeman co…
