Texas A&M’s David Beaty named Kansas coach

Texas A M assistant David Beaty is the new head coach for Kansas Jayhawks football.

Bruce Feldman of FOX Sports just before noon ET on Friday.

Beaty, 44, joins the Jayhawks after spending 2014 as Texas A M’s recruiting coordinator and wide receivers coach. He served on Mark Mangino’s staff at KU from 2008-09 and under Turner Gill in 2011 after a season as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Rice.

Beaty will take over for interim head coach Clint Bowen, who replaced Charlie Weis after his firing in late September.

The Jayhawks haven’t been to a bowl game since the 2008 Insight Bowl — a 42-21 win over Minnesota. Since then, the team is a combined 17-55 under the direction of Mangino, Gill and Weis.
