Virgil van Dijk’s advice to young Reds: ‘Soak it in and don’t get carried away’

Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk had advised the club’s emerging young stars to keep their feet on the ground – as he will be keeping an eye on them.

Eighteen-year-olds Jayden Danns and Lewis Koumas, sons of former Premier League professionals Neil and Jason, scored the goals which beat Southampton 3-0 to set up an FA Cup quarter-final at Manchester United.

The last week has seen academy players thrust into the spotlight with an injury crisis denying Jurgen Klopp the services of 13 first-team players – with Andy Robertson’s illness briefly adding to the issues – and after impressing in the Carabao Cup final win over Chelsea they were central figures against Saints.

For the first time in our history, two players aged 18 or younger have scored in the sam…

Oxford announce Wilder exit

Chris Wilder s five-year spell as Oxford United manager has ended and he is set to take charge at a rival League Two club.

Oxford, currently sixth in the table, confirmed on Sunday that Wilder s contract has been terminated and financial compensation has been agreed with another side in the same division, rumoured to be Northampton Town.

Wilder guided Oxford back into the Football League via the play-offs in 2010 and has helped the club become established in the fourth tier of English football.

A statement on the club s official website said: Oxford United confirms that manager Chris Wilder has formally tendered termination of his contract which has today (Sunday) been accepted by the board.

The club can also confirm that a satisfactory compensation package has b…

PSG flunk Auxerre test as minnows hold Lyon

Lyon and Paris Saint Germain laid bare the deteriorating standard of the French top flight on Sunday, drawing with bottom side Arles and losing at home to struggling Auxerre respectively.

Lyon may have won all three of their Champions League matches this season but they were abject in failing to conquer an Arles side who had previously shown themselves to be out of their depth at this level with just one point from their opening nine matches.

Coach Claude Puel sat uncomfortably in his hotseat as he watched a 1-1 draw in rain-drenched conditions at Arles s modest Avignon home.

Home fans gave the apparent no-hopers a standing ovation after they had secured a deserved point.

It could have been more after Dja Djedje s 36th-minute chip put the hosts ahead but…

Mijatovic magic, Zidane heartache – Real Madrid and Juventus´ 1998 Champions League final

Real Madrid and Juventus will meet in the Champions League final in Cardiff on Saturday – 19 years on from when these two heavyweights last crossed swords on European club football s top stage.

Head coach Zinedine Zidane hopes to lead Madrid to a successful defence of their title and make the recently minted LaLiga champions the first club to achieve this feat in almost three decades.

During his celebrated playing days, Zidane was unable to help Juventus accomplish the same aim in 1997, when the then-reigning European champions lost 3-1 to Borussia Dortmund in Munich.

In Amsterdam 12 months later, Juve were at their third final in as many years having secured Serie A glory domestically.

Madrid were firmly viewed as outsiders, having finished a distant f…

Atleti´s Gabi wants Barcelona to join Madrid sides in Champions League semis

Atletico Madrid captain Gabi wants Barcelona to complete another improbable comeback against Juventus and continue Spanish dominance of the Champions League.

Atleti battled to a 1-1 draw against Premier League champions Leicester City on Tuesday, completing a 2-1 aggregate victory after Saul Niguez s away goal stacked the odds heavily in their favour at the King Power Stadium.

Diego Simeone s side are through to the semi-finals for the third time in four seasons alongside city rivals Real Madrid, who beat them after extra-time and penalties respectively in the 2014 and 2016 finals and triumphed in a 2015 quarter-final.

When asked about a desire for revenge over Madrid, Gabi refused to be drawn, but he offered a message of support to Barca, who must overturn a 3-0…

English and Irish FAs move forward with joint 2030 World Cup bid

Plans for a joint British and Irish bid to host the 2030 World Cup are taking shape, according to Football Association of Ireland (FAI) official Noel Mooney.

The encouraging results of an English-led feasibility study have given rise to optimism over a successful joining of forces.

According to reports, the proposal would see Wembley host the final with matches to take place in Cardiff, Dublin, Glasgow and various English cities.

There is ample time for further logistical assessments as FIFA has outlined plans to select the winning bid in 2024.

The feasibility study is positive and there s a sense that the right thing to do is go forward, FAI general manager Mooney told The Times.

This bid is out on the front foot and very well led by the guys…

Mourinho: I´m invested in Levy´s vision for Tottenham

Jose Mourinho says he has every intention of playing an integral role in chairman Daniel Levy s vision for Tottenham.

The Portuguese took over the reins at Spurs on November 20 – just one day after Mauricio Pochettino s dismissal – and has overseen an impressive turnaround in fortunes.

His side have defeated West Ham and Bournemouth in the Premier League and came from two goals down to beat Olympiacos 4-2 in the Champions League.

Few believe Mourinho will stick around in north London for the long haul, but the former Manchester United boss insists he is invested in Levy s plans for the club.

He [Levy] is the boss, he s the man with the vision, he told reporters. He s the man that started with that vision more than a decade ago and now I m part of t…

New World PTR Is Currently Testing Endgame Changes And A New Seasonal Event

Endgame changes are being tested on New World’s public test realm, as developer Amazon Game Studios looks to build “a compelling and diverse endgame” that has largely been missing since the game’s launch. Come from Sports betting site VPbet

As it currently stands, New World’s endgame isn’t terribly exciting. Upon hitting max level, players mostly just run around in large groups and clear out endgame elite zones for a chance of obtaining a better piece of gear that will raise what Amazon calls a “High Watermark” for that particular item slot, thus increasing their chances of getting even better gear to drop in the future. Players do this all the way until their Watermark for each piece of gear is level 600, t…

Inter sign Samp striker

Serie A champions Inter Milan have signed striker Giampaolo Pazzini from Sampdoria for 10 million pounds.

Pazzini, 26, completed a medical on Friday before the transfer was finalised with French forward Jonathan Biabiany going in the other direction.

Pazzini revealed he could not resist a move to the European champions but said he was sorry to leave Sampdoria, for whom he scored six goals in 19 matches this season.

I leave a piece of my heart in Genova. But you can t say no to Inter, Pazzini said.

The striker joined Sampdoria from Fiorentina in the January transfer window in 2009, with Pazzini quickly establishing himself as a hero at his new club with 11 goals in 19 Serie A appearances before the season ended.

He notched 19 goals in the Serie A…
